RESCUE. REPURPOSE. REPEAT.
This is the mantra of this week’s All New American featured Monday Maker. The inspiration to upcycle discarded fabric into a quality American Made product came about when her daughter wanted to make pet bandanas.
Friends found out and brought her an enormous load of beautiful fabric remnants.
Please meet Stacey James-Cornelius, founder of Terminus Threads located in Atlanta, GA.
Stacey founded Terminus Threads in 2014. The company’s logo and name have meaning. The phoenix is code for regeneration or reborn in Greek Mythology. Terminus was the original name given to Atlanta, GA prior to the Civil War and the city’s widespread burning.
Today, Stacey frequents local fabric stores, upholstery shops, quilting markets and takes all of their remnants that would otherwise be destined for a landfill.
She brings them to headquarters (her dining room table) and goes to work examining each piece of fabric to see what she can use. All fabric that is a fit for Terminus is set aside.
Once their fates have been determined, the fabrics are sent off to production in or near Atlanta – namely to small-business-owner seamstresses where they are cut and sewn into a variety of different quality American Made products.
Pocket squares to jazz up any blazer,
reversible coasters for tumblers,
colorful napkins to grace your table
Once sewn, the products are shipped back to headquarters, where each piece is hand-stamped with the Terminus Threads logo, then distributed to specialty shops and online retailers.
Everything Terminus sells is limited edition and is made from the same high-quality fabrics you find in high-end department stores.
The smallest of scraps find a home – nothing is wasted or seen as unusable.
Recycle. Repurpose. Repeat. TT Mantra.
Terminus Threads’ goal is to donate a percentage of quarterly earnings goes to local foundations, benefitting individuals and families who are currently struggling or rebuilding.
Donation forecast for 2016 – battered women’s shelter, children’s home and addiction recovery center.
All good stuff!
