All New American is honored to present this very accomplished American small business. Just three years young, this maker was invited to the White House and recognized as a “Champion of Change.” The journey started over 20 years ago, when Emily and Betsy Nunez were born into a military family at West Point. Emily went on to enroll in the ROTC, The Reserve Officers’ Training Corps which is a college-based * Officer training program for training commissioned officers of the United States Armed Forces.
Please meet first-lieutenant Emily Nunez.
Both sisters grew up fully aware of the challenges veterans faced as they came home from being deployed. They also saw the incredible amount of military surplus gear that goes to waste. The two young women were inspired to do something that mattered, that was cause driven and sustainable.
Please meet Betsy Nunez who saw bags and accessories as a path to achieving their goal.
In 2012 they launched a Kickstarter campaign hoping to raise $20,000.
They had an overwhelming response. In the end they raised a total of $312,000!
And so was born Sword & Plough.
