"I’m incredibly fortunate to be sewing in The Cradle of Liberty, Philadelphia. On the same street as Betsy Ross’s house! I walk by Independence Hall on my commute to work. In a tourist destination, America finds me. On any given day, anyone from all over the world can walk in my shop door. They all are here to experience America. When customers insist on a selfie with the woman who made their dress, I can be pretty sure they like the little bit of America we are creating together. Addressing online shipments to different cities and states is satisfying, too, a virtual “road trip" of places all around the country where I’ve made someone happy."
This week’s American Small Business brand loves MAKING clothes.
Please meet designer Betsy Cook, founder of National Picnic based in Philadelphia, PA.
Betsy began sewing National Picnic clothing in 2011 for friends and neighbors.
A Kickstarter was launched in 2016 in order to help grow the National Picnic clothing brand.
Betsy creates “few-of-a-kinds,”
those oh-so-tiny micro-runs of hyper-limited edition styles making every piece that much more special and unique.
When in Philadelphia, find Betsy sewing and selling locally to the public at 323 Arch Street Fashion Collective.
