The all American passion for baseball is at the heart of this week’s featured Monday Maker.
Please meet Jeremy Mitchell whose journey into hand-crafted, quality American Made products started in 2013.
A web designer by trade, Jeremy was asked to be a part of a group of designers to help rebrand Salemtown Board Co., a skateboard company.
Salemtown hand-crafts exquisite cruisers in Nashville, TN.
While making skateboards, for all your cruising needs, the company’s mission, with its product, is to help inner city kids.
The combination of hand-crafting and community cause struck a chord with Jeremy and he wanted to channel his artistic sensibilities into something made with his hands. His ‘aha’ moment was his realization that the crafting process used by Salemtown, could be applied to his main passion – BASEBALL – baseball bats to be exact.
Growing up in Nashville, TN the son of divorced parents and an absentee father,
Jeremy channeled his frustration and disappointment into the neighborhood game of baseball.
Sports, be it skateboarding, basketball or baseball are positive outlets where young boys and girls can find inspiration and leadership and Jeremy knew that his new endeavor would include community causes for inner city boys and girls.
Inspired by Salemtown, Jeremy started sketching baseball bat design ideas.
He incorporated his business name Mitchell Bat Company.
Being a web designer, he immediately created a website.
Jeremy still had not figured out how to make the bats he envisioned!
Fast forward to the 2013 World Series. Fenway Park. The Red Sox vs. the Cardinals.
Life suddenly changed for Jeremy.
Through Instagram’s geo-tagging feature, Jeremy was able to find Red Sox and Cardinals fans who were attending the game. He started liking and commenting on their photos and in turn, they saw his account and started liking his photos.
It quickly spread. Four days later he sold his first two bats.
Still working out the process, Jeremy bought some blanks from a Nashville supplier and went to work sanding,
painting in a makeshift studio in his garage
and finally branding his MBCO
logo onto the handle of his bats.
His baseball bats are exquisite and he offers an extensive collection of colorful quality American Made products.
The company collaborates with other manufacturers.
