A professional portrait photographer for 30 years,
An artist with a very specific personal aesthetic, drawn to that which is simple, clean, and minimalistic, was on the hunt for a jewelry line that would reflect her person. While attending the Sundance Festival in 2009 with her award-winning independent filmmaker husband Paul Mezey,
Gaby, on a whim, jumps into a jewelry studio and makes a ring
and catches, in her words, “the small metal bug.” Training herself in the craft of small metals
and passionate about individuality, Gaby starts making one-of-a-kind pieces for herself.
Her friends, taking notice, start commissioning pieces for themselves, and in 2011, Gaby formally launches
taking its name from the characters in the film Casablanca, a story about passion and individuality.
Working from her home studio,
respectful of artisan traditions,
Gaby works in small batches, the North South earrings,
uses high quality gold fill, her Whisper bangles.
Each piece is uniquely crafted with forge markings, the Wafers,
and each piece patina polished by hand.
Gaby’s leather and gold pieces are equally as lovely in their simplicity and attention to detail, the Wrap
and the Three Wishes.
The studio credo … “less is always more, form should follow function, proportions are just right, each piece is engineered efficiently.” The Side by Side ring embodies all of the above.
Gaby’s years behind the lens are evident in every styled photograph she takes. Small pieces of art are exquisitely displayed, in a minimalistic way, exuding all the qualities Gaby has embraced
in her new found passion of jewelry making and its elegant results.
Team All New American is delighted to present the story of another ‘Made in the USA’ company, Ilsa Loves Rick, a 4 year old small business making one-off pieces of jewelry art, in Bucks County, PA, that are simple, elegant, and sophisticated in design.
