The loss of one’s job is often the impetus needed in order to go on to new and better things. That is precisely what happened to this week’s featured Monday Maker.
Please meet Laurie Perrone, founder of Farm2Fashion, a small business making a quality American Made product in Cornwall, NY.
Laurie grew up with a love of yarn instilled in her by her grandmother, a knitter of beautiful heirloom pieces. Laurie became a master knitter herself and went onto FIT in New York.
Graduating from FIT, Laurie entered the fashion industry and for the next 25 years worked in product development with an emphasis on knitwear design. Working directly with Liz Claiborne, Laurie honed her skills in planning, designing and implementing product lines.
In 2013 her job was eliminated and Laurie needed to come up with a new life plan. Living in Cornwall, NY, surrounded by farms and fresh air, Laurie contemplated starting out on her own.
Stumbling upon a local yarn shop, she was given the card of a Pennsylvania farmer. The farmer had Angora goats whose fiber produces mohair.
The PA farmer needed someone to help create compelling yarns for a new project of his. Bingo! Laurie readily accepted this freelance project. She attended the Spin Expo trade show in New York on his behalf and his farm was one of only two domestically made yarn suppliers at the show. This quality American Made product was a hit. Labels like Ralph Lauren wanted to know about their domestic yarn production capabilities. For Laurie, American Made was still alive. The year was 2014. A successful show behind her and back in Cornwall, Laurie took a long look at what she just experienced at Spin Expo. Inspired by the powerfully positive reception of American Made she decided to go into business, developing and designing a high-end, quality American Made collection of knit products.
She incorporated in 2015 under the name of Farm2Fashion
Farm2Fashion produces luxury classic knitwear and home decor that do not skimp on taste or quality.
The majority of Laurie’s products are made out of recycled cotton scraps that are knit into soft textiles using an innovative process.
These beautifully soft natural fibers are then turned into the Farm2Fashion one-of-a-kind line of luxurious blankets, apparel and accessories and are offered in three different collections.
The Farm Luxe collection is country chic and offers this beautiful poncho modeled by, none other than Mrs American Made’s, Ana Bogusky.
Laurie’s popcorn stitch scarf is refreshingly modern and fun to wear.
Karma Mama collection features vibrant throws with powerful messages. Below, the warm Lotus Flower and OM throw.
Laurie’s ” Be Free” butterfly pillow.
Finally, the American collection which is built around Betsy Ross’s American flag design.
Her beautiful product, her commitment to American factories rich in both history and experience, along with her wish to have an American product with a low carbon footprint earned Farm2Fashion two of the prestigious Martha Stewart awards.
You will NEVER see this label on any piece offered by Farm2Fashion.
Instead, you will find a clear mark of the product’s provenance
along with a lovely label that has been hand dipped in coffee for color and hand stamped with sincerity.
