An architect and an engineer came together to ‘escape their professions’ and to fully explore and develop a hobby started long before they both became working professionals.
Please meet Michael and Meredith, co-founders of Diamonds Are Evil based in Flagstaff, AZ and this week’s All New American featured Monday Maker.
While studying at the School of Architecture, Michael and Meredith began designing and experimenting with wood scraps using the laser cutters available in their department.
They had fun, found their own aesthetic and left it there to enter into their chosen careers. The two never lost sight of that time in school together and continued to experiment. Many late nights and long weekends later they felt confident enough to venture out on their own.
Diamonds Are Evil was founded in 2011 and the name was chosen in order to bring awareness, to consumers, about the lack of ethics prevalent in the diamond industry.
The jewelry collection is made of laser cut wood paired beautifully with leather and brass.
The process always starts with a drawing using each of their skills.
They then move into a computer drafting program to begin finalizing the design. After cutting a few iterations of the same design, they can choose which one to use as the final product.
The birch plywood and maple hardwood are ethically and sustainably sourced and act as a canvas for their designs.
Their latest collection, The Ra Collection is inspired by Egyptian architecture and its decorative motifs.
The collection has expanded to include really cool leather clutches sporting the same laser cut designs as the jewelry.
Architecturally inspired laser cut cards have been added as well.
The Diamonds Are Evil collection is so versatile it works with both the latest in style
to the softness of your wedding apparel.
All New American is delighted to feature another ‘Made in the USA’ company. Since 2011, Diamonds Are Evil, based in Flagstaff, AZ has been designing and making unique quality American Made laser cut jewelry, beautifully pairing wood, leather and brass.
Michael and Meredith can be proud to be part of the ‘American Made’ community that is fuel for the engine which makes America great.
Thank you for giving us your time today. Have a great week. The Team.
