"The awareness that the public has been putting on supporting "local" businesses has provided many small business owners the luxury of being able to wake up each day loving their job.”
Team All New American is always on the lookout for the latest and greatest happenings in our 50 states. When the story of this week’s featured Monday Maker broke in Alaska, we had to add the link to our ‘Good News’ section on our website, which, incidentally, gets updated on a daily basis.
We then reached out to the founders and they were more than happy to become part of our community.
Please meet Steven Cornfield and Kyle Reading, founders of Cut & Caliber, an Alaska-based small business crafting quality American Made personal care for men and all their grooming needs.
In their early 20’s the two young men met in Seattle through the music scene and ended up rooming together. They shared the same kind of style and vibes and the entrepreneurial spirit started to percolate.
Back in Anchorage, they tossed business ideas around. T-shirts, hoodies, accessories and socks came up but neither showed much excitement by these offerings. Kyle floated the ‘men’s grooming’ idea and the concept took ahold of them both.
The idea was to bring the taming of the beard to the authentic Alaskan man whose style is a cross between the well-groomed city slicker
and the mountain man who likes his beard as neat as the whiskey he drinks.
The challenge in Alaska is how to keep your skin soft and your beard silky in below zero Celcius temperatures and arctic winds.
In search of the perfect grooming products for men, Steven and Kyle went to work.
They founded their business in 2016 under the name of Cut & Caliber.
Taking inspiration from Thomas Edison who famously said “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work,”
Kyle becomes the mixologist as he seeks to brew up the perfect recipes.
In keeping with the Alaskan identity of back-to-your-roots, rugged, bootstrapped, do-it-yourself, 100% natural, they have formulated perfectly balanced grooming products with scents that pay homage to the natural landscape of Alaska.
The company’s headquarters and manufacturing facility are literally located in Steven’s kitchen. This gives their quality American Made products a true artisanal component. The two have struck a good business balance.
Every mixture is brewed and hand poured by Kyle
while Steven is in charge of all marketing, labeling and social media.
By bringing contemporary style and grooming to Alaskan men they are both eager to show that Alaska is current with the ‘in’ styles as they find their products shelved in good company.
Their sense of community is unparalleled. They strive to locally source their ingredients like this Alaskan made beeswax.
A newbie small American business, Cut & Caliber offers several grooming products.
Pomade for the perfect hold, shine and scent.
Lip Balm because taking care of your lips is as important as taking care of your face.
A soy based candle
brewed and hand poured in the same meticulous way as all of their other products.
Their number one product is their beard oil made with four unique oils infused with their signature Flintlock scent.
Going forward Cut & Caliber is planning to add hair care, body care and other lifestyle products that are stylish and which personify the customer they seek, young entrepreneurs and adventure driven outdoorsmen who want to look and feel good.
They are thrilled to have placed their men’s grooming collection into one of ‘the’ retail galleries in Anchorage, AK.
Team New American is delighted to feature another ‘Made in the USA’ company. Since 2016, Cut & Caliber, an artisanal driven start-up in Anchorage, AK has been brewing and bottling natural beard oil, mustache wax, lip balm and more for all your manly grooming needs. Steven and Kyle’s commitment to their community and locally sourced ingredients makes their company another example of what drives a quality American Made product. Steven and Kyle can be proud to be part of the ‘American Made’ community that is fuel for the engine which makes America great.
Thank you for giving us your time today. Have a great week. The Team.
